Rosenthal – “Spring” by Dorothea Charol

A delightful art deco porcelain figure tited “Spring”; designed by Dorothea Charol (1889-1963) for Rosenthal and dating to c1940. It has very delicate modelling and hand painted decoration. It has full factory and designers marks on the underside and signed “D Charol” twice on the base.

Rosenthal – Drinking Girl by Ernst Wenck

This is a stunning art deco period porcelain figurine titled “The Drinking Girl” designed by Ernst Wenck (German 1865-1929) and produced by the German firm, Rosenthal. This figure was made in three sizes, this example being the middle and best size.

Ernst Wenck was a German artist/sculptor born in Reppen. He studied at thef the Museum of Decorative Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. During a successful career he became a member and later the Vice Chairman of the Berlin Secession. In 1922 he was appointed a member of the Academy of Arts.
