Rosenthal – Ariadne by Cassmann –

A charming early 20th century porcelain figurine of a kneeling girl designed by artist sculptor Albert Cassmann (1886-1968) for Rosenthal, Germany. This work is titled Ariadne and was designed in c1912. This example is mainly white with blue patterned sarong and facial details. It is fully marked on the underside with printed factory marks for c1920 and moulded mdel numbers K345. It is also signed on the plinth “A Cassmann”.

Ariadne, from Greek myth, was the daughter of Minos, King of Crete and in charge of the Labyrinth in which, Theseus, the son of King Aegeus, had volunteered to kill the Minotaur. Ariadne fell in love at first sight, and helped him by giving him a ball of thread so that he could find his way out of the Minotaur’s labyrinth.

A gorgeous character model of a Wire Haired Fox Terrier, designed by M H Fritz and made by the German firm Rosenthal. It has detailed modelling and is finely hand painted. Their are full printed and impressed makers marks on the underside dating this to c1956.

Cello Boy – Designed by Ferdinand Liebermann for Rosenthal

An early Rosenthal porcelain model of a young child sitting on a cello, designed by Ferdinand I Liebermann. It has detailed modelling and is decorated with pale brown hair and gilt highlights. Fully marked on the underside with printed factory marks and is signed on the side by the artist. This example dates to c1920 and is model number K342.

Ferdinand Liebermann (1883 – 1941) was a German sculptor who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He worked in bronze as well as porcelain and was commissioned to create portrait busts of those in power in Germany during the 1930’s.

“The Two Sisters” – by H Meisel for Rosenthal

A gorgeous delicate hand painted porcelain figure group titled “The Two Sisters” by Rosenthal. This group was designed by Hugo Meisel (1887-1966) and was created c1937.

Meisel was a German artist who was born in Lichte in 1887 and worked for a number of porcelain makers, including Rosenthal, Volkstat, Heubach and Schwarzberger. It is understood that Meisel worked for Rosenthal in the 1936-37 period designing a number of detailed figures and figure groups.

King Charles Spaniel by F Diller for Rosenthal

A hand painted porcelain model of a seated King Charles Spaniel designed by F Diller and made by the German firm, Rosenthal. It has life like modelling and hand painted colours in light browns. It is fully marked with makers and signed “F Diller” on the base. Model number K257 is impressed on the underside and without a date, which suggests a mid 1920’s date.

Fritz Diller (1876-1946) was a sculptor/artist working in bronze and porcelain whose subjects were mainly animals and especially dogs.

Rosenthal – Prayer Dancer by Gustav Oppel

A stunning art deco porcelain figurine by the German firm Rosenthal tiled “The Prayer Dancer” and designed by Gustav Oppel (1891-1978). These example is the larger (and rarer) of the two sizes of figure with her wearing a pale blue skirt and white top. Glaze with satin flesh tones and with hand painted details.

Full printed marks on the underside. Artist “GO” monogram on the base. Moulded model number 961/2.
